Fund Our Future
Just as the U.S. and other developed countries have standards and regulations for their water systems, many African governments have national standards for the types of hand pumps that can be used on drilled wells.
In many countries, the standard hand pump is either the Afridev or the India Mark II (IMII). Unfortunately, these pumps have their limits. The Afridev can reach 45 meters and the IMII 50 meters, but in many areas, fresh, safe water cannot be accessed at those depths. Many drilled wells require a deeper, more robust hand pump to consistently pump clean water throughout the entire year. The Afridev and IMII are also prone to breakdowns, and the required repairs often take too long–if they happen at all.
But the LifePump is different, and African governments are taking notice.
The LifePump can reach 100 meters, almost twice the depth of the current standards. Plus, its pumping mechanism and components are designed to last for years with minimal maintenance.
After the completion of the Hundred Pump Project, The Zambian and Malawian governments recognized the benefit and superiority of the LifePump, and they have committed to pilot the Lifepump over the next two years to gain national acceptance.
This means that both governments could potentially adopt the LifePump as their national standard at the completion of the pilot. Once this happens, big-name NGOs and nonprofits will be required to purchase and install a LifePump on all new boreholes.
This shift in technology will drastically improve the accessibility of safe and reliable water across Zambia and Malawi.
During the pilot phase, Design Outreach will be working hard to monitor the pumps, develop a robust supply chain of pumps and parts, and train local villagers to maintain and monitor their pumps.
At the same time, Design Outreach hopes to expand its reach in Kenya through a pilot partnership with The Water Project, install more LifePumps in Haiti, and take the LifePump to new countries.
This is a unique and rare opportunity to change the future of safe, reliable water. We are looking for champions who can connect with us, engage their community, and raise the funds necessary to see these new projects succeed. All funds raised will go toward making these goals become reality.
Set your goal today, and we will help you achieve it! By signing up to be a pilot campaign champion, you will receive quarterly updates on the progress of these projects so you can see how your contributions are making a difference throughout Africa.
Will you help us change the future of hand pump sustainability?
